Memory of the Earth

A long-term project series exploring the convergence of ecological research data and immersive cultural experience.

CURATORIAL DIRECTION

Memory of the Earth begins with real data: ocean temperatures, species counts, soil samples, satellite imagery collected by scientists in the field. We work with research institutions to access this material, then invite artists to respond to it. The goal is not to illustrate science, but to give it a form people can actually feel: as sound, as space, as something you walk through.

Projects in the series focus on different ecological questions. What ties them together is a commitment to accuracy- the data is real, the science is peer-reviewed- and a belief that art can make visible what numbers alone cannot.

RESEARCH PARTNERS

The project is developed in conversation with:

Charles Darwin Foundation Founded in 1959 under the auspices of UNESCO and IUCN. Based in the Galápagos Islands, the Foundation has spent over six decades conducting scientific research and conservation work in one of the most ecologically significant places on earth.

Project Hiu A marine conservation initiative in Lombok, Indonesia, founded by Madison Stewart. The project works directly with local shark fishing communities, converting fishing boats into research and ecotourism vessels, reducing shark mortality while building sustainable livelihoods.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS

The series brings together international artists who work closely with scientific research, in fields including ocean ecology, climate systems, and biodiversity. Rather than representing nature from a distance, these artists embed themselves in research environments, drawing on fieldwork and primary data to shape their work.
